A bridge to Thansadet. Far away from anywhere.
... Time comes to a standstill. All movement ceases. All that is left is the hum of the cicadas in the trees, the gentle wind as it caresses the slopes of hill nine, and mosquitoes. The resort is inhabited by a Thai couple, a Burmese couple, and a few regulars from Germany on a time-out from Bavaria. If given the chance, the Germans would stay here forever. I wonder why. It can't be the beer...

Open for the Unexpected

May 18th 2007
Great photo ops tend to come when I'm not really looking for anything. Like here in Bangsaen about an hour's drive south of Bangkok: miles of palm trees, empty beach chairs and closed umbrellas quivering in the breeze, imminent nightfall, floodlights washing the bay in artificial light... there's an eerie blackness in the air. A secret door opens before me, I step through - rigging up camera stands with corroded beach table legs and tops, losing myself in the act, riding the wave. Happy as can be.

Wednesday afternoon near Ari sky train station. Bangkok kickers tear through gravity with volleys, scissor kicks and back flips. 'Sepak Takraw', the Muay Thai of volleyball, is appreciated best with a shot of Thai whiskey. This photo op was an unexpected treat after a day at the cinema in Nusauaree/Victory Monument.

Pictures taken with Leica V-Lux 1.
